Well I did get some joy in the end, the DVLA took responsibility and corrected the mistake, I blogged about that on the following link:

http://auroral.co.uk/2008/06/03/victory-for-the-little-people-dvla-and-philips-collection-services/

It was hard, stressful and seemed damn near impossible but I got their by being persistent.

The crazy thing is and I'm not sure if your aware but apparently we can't sue them over this, something to do with it being a government agency.

Did you keep your original SORN notice and notification to them that the vehicle was being scrapped if you have then this will help but you'll still face headaches because quite simply the Government, their services and the people they employ to collect unpaid funds are heavy handed, I just wish they would be quick to hand money back when we are owed it.

If you wish to then have a look at the following blogs (click on "Previous blogs" for older ones):

http://auroral.co.uk/tag/dvla/

You will notice this one:

http://auroral.co.uk/2008/08/12/no-car-tax-officer-are-you-sure/

In short the police pulled me over in my current car and said their computer shows the DVLA says I have no car tax, he looks at the badge and then apologises because it's quite blatantly obvious I did.

Just think if you did pay for something you shouldn't then at least you'll be helping all those MP's afford their second homes, flash cars and porno channels they claim for.

I wish you luck!

i am glad to see that i am not the only one to receive aggressive communications from PHILLIPS,not glad, but i hope you get my drift, the one + only tel.number given by all departments of PHILLIPS,0844 800 4588,is a complete waste of time so i contacted my phone provider(virgin media)who gave me a contact phone number for PHILLIPS which i rang and asked if i was talking to the owner of the firm + i was told i was.when the guy i was speaking to realised that i was complaining about their aggressive methods he told me that it was nothing to do with him and he put the phone down....i see from ypur post that you are having problems with an £80 fine from dvla the same as myself over a car that was scrapped but dvla will not acknowledge the fact that i am innocent until proven guilty..they keep threatening to clamp my car which they are welcome to do if they can find it as it has not existed since nov.2008.when i scrapped it there was still 2 months tax on it which i did not bother to claim back so it really gets me mad to be expected to pay further tax for a vehicle which no longer exists.my concern is that a bunch of thugs could arrive to clamp my present car(which is 100%legal)and i could end up with a bad credit rating from EXPERIAN CREDIT REFERENCE who are another shower of crooks who just take money from your bank account without permission, beware.the t.v.programme WATCHDOG have been sorting problems with the dvla lately and with aggresive debt collection agencies so they may be able to help out.i am most certainly going to get in touch with them(the more the merrier)and i might just be taking a trip to doncaster to see what kind of thugs actually work for phillips,,,,,junkstreet1
