A number of years ago myself and a few friends did the who coke and Mentos thing which I’m sure most of you are aware of by now however if not, then allow me to explain. Basically when you add the sweets Mentos to diet coke it causes an subtle explosion from pressure in the bottle. I suppose a video would better explain:
Now the reason I’m blogging about this now is that just last night I came across a little contraption which was close in design to that which my friends and I discussed about all those many years ago, we even dabbled with the idea of making such a thing but never took it any further. It amused me and reminded me of days gone by, so I thought I’d share.
My blog also sends this article out to Facebook, I’m not sure it will include the image as I’m never tried before, if not then please click this link to see the original article and image: Auroral.co.uk
Really strange today, I came across an old friend on the internet and was thinking about my dad as well and for some reason I got to thinking about Seamus Heaney and two poems came to mind. I can’t remember one of them totally and couldn’t find it but the other one was Mid-term Break. Really not sure of the relevance, perhaps a subconscious memory.
Mid-term Break
I sat all morning in the college sick bay
Counting bells knelling classes to a close,
At two o’clock our neighbors drove me home.
In the porch I met my father crying–
He had always taken funerals in his stride–
And Big Jim Evans saying it was a hard blow.
The baby cooed and laughed and rocked the pram
When I came in, and I was embarrassed
By old men standing up to shake my hand
And tell me they were “sorry for my trouble,”
Whispers informed strangers I was the eldest,
Away at school, as my mother held my hand
In hers and coughed out angry tearless sighs.
At ten o’clock the ambulance arrived
With the corpse, stanched and bandaged by the nurses.
Next morning I went up into the room. Snowdrops
And candles soothed the bedside; I saw him
For the first time in six weeks. Paler now,
Wearing a poppy bruise on the left temple,
He lay in the four foot box as in a cot.
No gaudy scars, the bumper knocked him clear.
A four foot box, a foot for every year.
Seamus Heaney
A friend of mine, Andy Aitcheson aka Lord Turel as he’s known on the net (he wanted to feel some importance in my shadows
), and his lovely partner Janet have recently had a beautiful baby boy that they named Zakk. Although I’ve not personally seen Zakk yet but I’ve been sent some photos over and here they are.
